A decade ago, researchers in this country asked a large group of people who they would turn to if they needed help. The results were astounding: while a small percentage said they would turn to a government agency, eighty six percent revealed that they would turn to a member of their congregation. Perhaps, this is but an expression of our intrinsic interdependence. Hence, at the Gorny Foundation, we are staunch believers in this supreme power of communities, and we seek to help bolster the growth of communities by investing in organizations that encourage greater participation in communal life.
We also realize the immense values and importance found within the ethics and teachings of the Jewish faith. Hence, we invest in organizations that encourage those of the Jewish faith towards greater commitment to Jewish observance by increasing the understanding, appreciation and practice of Jewish values and traditions.
Notwithstanding our vision to create an impact worldwide, we will provide priority-status to our local communities and to the global advocacy, health research or education efforts that are nearest to us, geographically and ideologically.
We investigate the programs of our grant recipients meticulously, in order to ensure that they can indeed make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. As part of our process, and in accordance with our ideology and modus operandi, we also seek to familiarize ourselves with the people behind the programs and initiatives. For we recognize that for a program to succeed it also needs the right “engine” for it, with a person of leadership that can direct it effectively. Where appropriate, we may also help promote the programs of our grant recipients.
